Kareem Chin and Erin Strother were married September 20 at the exquisite Graves 601 Hotel downtown in Minneapolis. This spectacular setting, one of the city's trendiest hotels, brought together Kareem and Erin's large circle of friends, college buddies, and relatives. The couple flew in from Brooklyn where Kareem works in finance and Erin is a sales rep. Fortunately we had time to take photographic advantage of the hotel's cool spaces and the fun of the downtown area across from the First Avenue music venue and the Target Center. We witnessed a first in our many years as wedding photographers! During the ceremony, the couple "jumped the broom" - a tradition that dates back to before the Civil War when marriage between African-Americans was outlawed. The last event of the evening we photographed was an amazing display of love and unity: Kareem's fraternity brothers, who joined them from all over the country, staged a traditional Alpha Phi Alpha salute to the couple. They encircle the bride and groom and serenade them with the fraternity's theme. It was an emotional, awesome moment.
Kareem and Erin tell me, "The wedding was fantastic in every way. Even more fun than we expected. We felt extremely blessed to have our family and friends celebrating the occasion with us and everyone seemed to have a genuinely good time."
The beautiful cake is from Buttercream. Music was fantastic by DJ JCue (Jon Buckner). Amazing night, great people, so much fun to photograph. Click on any image to open larger and please leave a message for Erin, Kareem, or us!
