Dominic Tannuzzo and his Mom and Dad

Last week it was such a treat when Molly and Gene Tannuzzo brought their firstborn to my studio for some portraits. How great it was to see them -- almost three years ago we photographed their wedding! Little Dominic was a preemie but made it to the home stretch perfectly healthy. Gene works in investment for American Express and Molly is a marraige and family therapist, and while we don't know whether Dominic will follow in their footsteps, one thing is clear. This kid is going to be a Yankees fan, just like the rest of Gene's family in Brooklyn!

Zach and Kristyn

Zach Vickman and Kristyn McHale and I met at the Como Park Conservatory in St. Paul today where Minnesotans can always pretend they are really in Hawaii. At this time of year we're all itching for an end to winter and this was just what the doctor ordered. Inside is always a riot of light and flowers. Take a deep breath - ahhhh! pure oxygen. Zach and Kristyn are getting married in a couple of weeks on April 5, so we had to move fast on this engagement session. The wedding ceremony will be at Kristyn's parents' home in North Oaks, Minnesota with the reception at the Hilton Garden Inn in St. Paul. Katie and Scott

View their slideshow here.

_mg_2350a_2

Sunday morning I had the pleasure of working with Katie Monson and Scott Knoblach, engaged to be married in July in Edinburg, North Dakota, population 250 (on a good census, she says), Katie's childhood home.

They are both great fun people, and we played in the Cowles Conservatory across from the Walker Art Museum, Minneapolis, to capture these and many more images.

Katie tells me they met through a co-worker, Troy, who is also Scott's best friend. Their romance began shortly after Troy stopped by her cubicle at Comcast in downtown St. Paul and announced that she should meet his friend Scott.

"I was a little taken back, but being in an adventurous spirit that morning, I said 'why not'. A couple hours later, Scott emailed me and asked me if I wanted to meet downtown for sushi at Nami. It was a fabulous first date. I could tell immediately that Scott was an incredible person both inside & out. What was supposed to be an hour date lasted into the night. He walked me to my car, asked to see me again and VOILA, 8 months later he asked for my hand in marriage."

"Scott is absolutely the most amazing man I've ever met. I'm incredibly lucky to be able to share the rest of my life with him."

The wedding theme will be "Country Garden." Bright pink, purple, pear green, white, and yellow are the colors. The bridesmaids will be dressed in bright pink tea length dresses, while the men will be in classic black tuxedos. They expect a crowd of about 200 people - almost the entire population of the town!

WPJA Awards

I got some cool news today. The Wedding Photojournalism Association (WPJA) quarterly awards were announced and I placed in the 10 top in three categories. Click any image to open larger.

Here are the winning entries and comments:

1948meymerz2web
Katie and Brian Merz arriving at the reception on the second floor of the Calhoun Beach Club, Minneapolis, August 25, 2007. Sixth place, Silhouettes, Shadows and Good Light.

The judges' comments: "This is a wonderful image. The natural light back light accentuates the bride and gives the photo a distinct edge. The less obvious angle paid off."

Emotion Jill Peterson, in the receiving line at her wedding in Iowa City, April 28, 2007. Sixth place, Emotion.

Judges' Comments: The light is great in this photo. So warm and inviting. It is a nice moment between child and bride.

Courtney Craig and Justin Salzl descend in the elevator at the Northland Inn after their private meeting. Third place, Transportation.

Judge's Comments: This is just different. The natural light works here as does the peach walls on either side of the couple. This is a very unique photo. Capturing the bride and groom in a glass elevator with the balconies is very graphic.

Also, congrats to Noah Wolf who won a second place award in the Toasting category.

Cheers!
